Playing begin terminate with the composer, performer, and good friend Chris Kurmel on wiimote

Hello everyone! Welcome to my website! I’m Brandon Hale: Composer, Producer, and general audio technologist. I write music and enjoy integrating technology into my creative habits. I am a video game composer and general computer musician.

I recently had my piece Fluorescent Nights performed at Linux Audio Conference 2019 at Stanford University by SCLork, who did a fantastic performance of it. Working with Bruno Ruviaro and his laptop orchestra was a pleasure and I wish them well. I hope to have this performance up on the website soon.

I also just finished teaching the Linux Laptop Orchestra (L2ork) at Virginia Tech as a Teaching Assistant to Dan Tramte and it was a blast! I was able to create the L2ork pd patch (everything but the instrument and film for the piece) for Tramte’s piece :woman technician: :shifty eyes: and perform my piece Fluorescent Nights again, this time not as a student, for the Fall 2018 DISIS Concert. Teaching students is such a gift, and I am so thankful for the opportunity and I hope I can find more of this kind of work in the future.

I have officially graduated from Virginia Tech with a BA in Music Composition and Audio Technology Professional. It was a longish (but felt short) road, but now the beginning is just getting started! I am continuing to make music and have some plans to roll out some work for the future, so stay tuned! If you would like to get in touch with me, feel free to on the contact page!

I am a strong advocator of free software for getting music and audio work done. Ever since my involvement with the Linux Laptop Orchestra, I have felt awakened to a new philosophy and world of software and computing. Jack Audio Server is extremely professional and gives a huge amount of control, pd-l2ork is a programming environment for creating instruments, pieces, and anything you can imagine, and lilypond is an extremely professional engraving tool that is quick and able to be run on most operating systems. Linux is hands down a great ecosystem for professional audio work and I hope I get a chance to spread my admiration for the platform and what it has to offer for audio and music professionals.

Various Linux tools that I enjoy using in my creative outputs

Lastly, if you need some music done for you, feel free to contact me. I would love to work with you and discuss your ideas.

This site is always under construction, so stay tune for more info and works!
